Question 1: What would make Goleta Beach Park a better place in terms of recreation?

 

GROUP 1

  • Remove Windamajig!

  • Kiosks for education/ecology

  • Educational resources available elsewhere (internet, etc.)

  • Less improvements (BBQ’s, etc.)

  • Enforce dog leash rules better with clearer signs for bird areas
GROUP 2

  • No jet skis

  • Replace portion of lawn and parking lot with sand or other environmental features (west or east), add offsite parking

  • Prohibit UCSB parking use

  • Increase educational opportunities

  • Engineered access across slough mouth
GROUP 3

  • Take out western parking lot

  • Keep parking lot and maintain access

  • Remote parking with shuttles, surreys from remote parking lot

  • Dunes

  • Eliminate charcoal fires

  • Have UCSB enforce parking at Goleta Beach

  • Protective anchorage for boats

  • A way to cross the slough (at high tide)

  • Expand park onto Gas Co. property

  • Return to conditions in the 1980’s-sand, park, kelp, lawn, parking lot

  • More picnic areas, trees
GROUP 4

  • No jet skis

  • Eliminate rocks

  • Reduce safety hazard from rocks

  • Eliminate parking at west end

  • Open slough outlet at west end

  • Retain park grassy areas for recreation

  • Docent program

  • Provide history of area and explanation of dynamic processes

  • Interpretation area like Refugio

  • Provide public transport

  • Increase/enhance natural habitat

GROUP 5

  • Interpretational education signs (need environment to be there-natural)

  • Passive reaction-sitting/tanning/sun/bird watching/walking

  • Interaction with inner ti
