RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR
GOLETA BEACH COUNTY PARK OUTLOOK
Adaptive Management/
Phased Approach
PHASE I
General
- No active turf or lawn removal
- No additional rocks, groins, artificial
headlands, breakwaters, jetties, etc
- Protection and restoration of natural
resources
- Protection of recreational use throughout
entire park
- Utility lines relocated to 217 (only essential
utilities to park facilities via Sandspit road)
- No beach grooming
- Relocate “vault” near pier
- No scraping for berm building
- Imported sand use only for nourishment as
necessary or available
- Protection of native beach and dune vegetation
- Prohibit jet skis
West End
- Beach nourishment on high beach (i.e. on western
parking lot) only with opportunistic sand (debris basin, flood control,
etc.)
- Dune/ high beach restoration
- Removal of western rock revetments
- Relocate far west bathroom near horseshoe pits
- Add 2 portable restrooms to West End
- Add 12 picnic tables to West End
- Add freestanding kid’s playground to West end
- Add 6 BBQ pits to West End
- Add new horse shoe pits
- Add interpretive signs (sandy beach habitat
topics)
- Maintain bike path in current location
- Add adjoining footpath on south side of bike path
(boardwalk)
East End
- Leave in legally non-conforming rock revetment
- No new maintenance to legally non-conforming
rock revetment
- East lot becomes seasonal parking lot
- Restoration of wetland periphery
- No creation of berms on East end
Parking
- Phase out far west parking lot
- Restripe entire lot to add more spaces
- Change parking lot medians to accommodate more
parking
- Add more parking in park maintenance area and
ranger house area when phased out
- Provide adequate slough buffer
- Enforcement of UCSB day use parking in park
west
- Reevaluate need for large west lot
- Explore use of shuttle on summer weekends to/
from UCSB new parking structure (under construction)
Other
- Remove ice plant near restaurant and replant
with ecologically appropriate native species
- Fence and restore appropriate native species
- Fence and restore wetland North of park
entrance (in conjunction with the Gas Company)
- Replace iceplant between park and Highway 217
with ecologically appropriate native species (in conjunction with Caltrans)
PHASE II
New Master Planning Effort
initiated (when Highway 217, park entrance, grater than 50% of parking
spaces, restaurant or pier are threatened)
